Everything Ukraine: New Single from Nameless featuring Ummagma

Musica Media is pleased to present a preview of the new joint single by the Ukrainian psych-rock band Nameless (UA, Ternopil) featuring Ummagma. The latter group released its two debut albums in mid-July, which we reviewed here and whose video we reviewed here, and the Canadian/Ukrainian duo has already been recording new material. While Nameless may be somewhat less known on the international music scene than in their native Ukraine, they are not a new group at all. In fact, Nameless is considered to be one of the ‘grandfathers’ of indie rock music in Ukraine, where both bands are currently living.

Es para MusicaMedia un gusto presentar este adelanto del split single de Ummagma junto a la banda de rock psicodelico Nameless( (UA, Ternopil). Ummagma  lanzo sus dos albums debut a mediados de julio, los cuales reseñanos hace un tiempo, igual que uno de sus videos. Namless aunque es relativamente nuevo en la escena internacional, llevan bastante como banda.De hecho Nameless es considerada como una de las bandas primigenias de la escena indie-rock en Ucrania, donde ambos proyectos residen ahora.

The song "Dandelions and Bees" was recorded and produced by Alexx Kretov (from Ummagma) in Ummagma’s own studio in Kremenets, western Ukraine. Sweetlana Forlove, the vocalist in Nameless, and Zoryan Bezkorovajny, the group’s founder and mastermind, explain that this is a song about an amazing vision, inspired by life in the city of Ternopil, where they currently live. The lyrics are based on the writings of Vasyl Makhno, a celebrated Ukrainian poet, who now lives in New York. 

La cancion "Dandelions and Bees" fue grabada y producida por Alexx Kretov ( de Ummagma) en el estudio de Ummagma en Kremenets al oeste de Ucrania. Sweetlana Forlove la vocalista de Nameless, y Zoryan Bezkorovajny el fundador del grupo y cerebro detras de la banda, explican que la cancion esta basada sobre una sorprendente vision inspirada por la vida en la ciudad de Ternopil, donde viven actualmente. La letra esta basada en los escritos de Vasyl Makhno un celebre poeta Ucraniano, que ahora reside en Nueva York.

As for Nameless, this neo-psychedelic (some say psych-folk) band was founded in 1992 and continues to be a celebrated veteran of the indie rock scene, with many groups of that era having disbanded long ago. Like Ummagma, the leaders of Nameless are also married, which could be one of the secrets to their long-standing success. This band’s repertoire is rooted in the aesthetics of the 1960s, and their original renditions feature a wonderful unique style “that breathes high and positive energy”, explains Mike Cormier, the head of the Davenport Collective, the Cleveland-based indie label that Nameless is signed to.

En cuanto a Nameless, esta banda neo-psicodelica ( o de folk-psicodelico podria decirse) fue fundada en 1992 y continuna siendo un gran referente de la escena indie rock, tomando en cuenta que muchos grupos de esa epoca se desunieron hace mucho. Igual que Ummagma los lideres de Nameless estan casados , lo que podria tomarse como uno de los secretos de su largo exito como banda. Su repertorio incluye  temas de los años 60's mientras que sus canciones originales tienen un maravilloso y único estilo  que respira grandes dosis de buena energia, explica Mike Cornier, el cerebro de Davenport Collective, el sello independiente con base en Cleveland del que Nameless hace parte.

Both Ummagma, which has been making music for 8 years, and their older siblings Nameless, who recently celebrated their 20th anniversary, are two indie bands that don’t follow the standard showbiz pattern and they are happy to follow their individual paths. So far, both groups have defied all such standards of mass culture.

Ummagma ha estado haciendo música durante 8 años, y sus hermanos mayores Nameless han celebrado recientemente su 20 aniversario, ambas bandas no se rigen por las reglas del negocio musical y están felices de seguir su propio camino, desafiando con su música el standar de la música comercial

So, despite geographic proximity, it is no surprise that these two bands have also teamed up musically. For those who have not yet encountered Ummagma’s music, their first two albums brought the world an epic soundscape mixture of dreampop, progressive rock, post-rock, post-punk, ethereal/ambient, and indie rock rarely seen since the early 4AD era. This latest release represents a welcome addition to the band’s repertoire as it takes them beyond their already-wide range of musical genres into what appears to be new and welcoming territory. As for Nameless, this song is a pleasant introduction to our listeners and we look forward to hearing more from this East European group

Tomando en cuenta la cercanía geográfica, no es una sorpresa que esta dos bandas se hayan juntado musicalmente. Para los que no han tenido la oportunidad de escuchar Ummagma, sus dos albums debut muestran una mezcla de dreampop, rock progresivo, post-rock. post-punk, ethereal/ambient, y Indie rock raramente visto desde las primeras bandas del sello 4AD. Este ultimo lanzamiento agrega al repertorio de la banda una nueva dimension a su ya amplio abanico de sonidos, llevandolos a un nuevo territorio. En cuanto a Nameless  es una buena manera de presentarlos a nuestros lectores y escuchas y esperamos pronto traerles mas novedades de esta banda del Este de Europa.

Easy Listening By Black Market karma ( Flower Power Records)

Flower Power Records is a true independent record label, where, as stated by the founders, “We are free to make our own decisions, all based on music”. Obviously it's necessary to make money to keep a business alive and we feel the best way to do this is to always put bands and their music first. F.P.R was created by "Supersonic" Mark to give Black Market Karma the ability to make and release their music in the way that they want it to sound.

Flower Power Records is not a closed shop, as they have recently added Dead Rabbits to the label and are looking forward to working with more great bands. On the label’s Facebook page, fans have the opportunity to share their music, videos, art, events and news, not to mention connect with Flower Power Records and share the love

Black Market Karma is an England based band formed by Stan Belton, Mike Sutton, Sam Thompson Garido, Mat Salerno, Louisa Pili & Tom Parker. This year, besides touring extensively through Europe, they have released three albums. Their debut "Comatose" was released on January 1, 2012, "Cocoon" was released on June 29, 2012, and the most recent album "Easy Listening" represents the last ‘must listen’ production from this dynamic groundbreaking band.

Black Market Karma es una banda inglesa formada por Stan Belton, Mike Sutton, Sam Thompson Garido, Mat Salerno, Louisa Pili & Tom Parker. Este año ademas de tocar en distintas partes de Europa, han lanzando tres albums. Su debut " Comotase" salio el 1 de enero del 2012, "Cocoon" fue lanzado el 29 de Junio, y su mas reciente trabajo, " Easy Listening"  es la ultima producción de esta dinámica y potente banda.

A band releasing three albums in a year is not typically seen in this day and age, and certainly is unparalleled to the historical pattern for bands. It is even more outstanding when a band can make all three of these albums great ones, which is what Black Market Karma has pulled off. The fact is that Black Market Karma has delivered three powerful pieces of music – the result of having extensive musical freedom and such great musical capacities. Besides touring, they have spent most of the year in the studio, creating these three brother albums, which now represent their musical identity and number among the most outstanding independent productions of the year.

Que una banda lancé tres albums es algo bastante raro en esta época, y es algo poco común para la mayoría de las bandas. Es aun asi mas sorprendente cuando una banda lanza tres albums excelentes en un año, que es sencillamente lo que ha hecho Black Market Karma- resultado de tener una amplia libertad musical y grandes talentos. Ademas de tocar, han pasado gran parte del año en estudio, creando estos tres albums hermanos que ahora representan su identidad musical y se pueden contar entre las producciones independientes mas importantes del año.

Black Market Karma’s music is highly influenced by all periods of psychedelic music, from the Velvet Underground through to Brian Jonestown Massacre, with hints of such well established bands as Spacemen 3 and others like My bloody Valentine or The Beatles. The result is a powerful balance among the noisy and swirling guitars, hypnotic bass lines and omnipresent drums. While they apply the old psychedelic formula, they do it their own unique way, resulting in what is clearly exciting and intoxicating music.

El sonido de Black Market Karma esta altamente influenciado por la psicodelia de todos los tiempos, desde The Velvet Underground a Brian Jonestown Massacre, con toques de bandas tan grandes como Spacemen 3 otras como  My Bloody Valentine o The Beatles  El resultado es un poderoso balance entre noise, torrentes de guitarras, bajo hipnótico y una batería constante y sonante. Usan la vieja formula psicodelica, adaptándola a su propia manera dando como resultado una excelente e intoxicante música.

I have to say that I had my doubts about this third album, but after spending the night with "Easy Listening", there is no doubt that Black Market Karma have done it again. This is a concise album balanced between amazing calculated doses of noise, amazing riff guitars and an easy and calming voice that sends you into hypnotic trance, song after song. It would be difficult to choose just one album from the three Black Market Karma releases, but one this is evident – this new album is another important step in the band’s career

Tengo que decir que tenia mis dudas sobre este tercer album, pero despues de pasar la noche con " Easy Listening" no hay duda que Black Market karma lo ha hecho de nuevo, Este es un trabajo conciso balanceado entre sorprendentes dosis calculadas de noise, riffs de guitarra increibles, y una voz perfecta y calmada que te manda en todo un trance hipnotico, cancion tras cancion. Seria muy dificil elegir un solo album de entre los tres trabajos de esta banda, pero algo esta claro- este nuevo albums es otro paso importante en su carrera

Black Market Karma is part of Flower Power Records, an independent record label that is making its way in the world of music. Along wih label mates Dead Rabbits, they are keeping the England psychedelic tradition alive – both projects are highly recommended. Moreover, they are spreading the power of their music as far and wide as possible, having made their amazing music available to us for free. The only logical and adequate response would be to listen to their music and support them

Black Market Karma es parte de Flower Power Records, un sello independiente que esta abriendose camino en el mundo de la musica. Junto con sus compañeros de sello The Dead Rabbits, mantienen con vida la tradicion psicodelica inglesa- ambos proyectos son altamente recomendables. Ademas, estan llevando el poder de su musica a todos los lugares posibles. No estan dando su gran musica gratuitamente desde la pagina de Flowe Power Records asi que la unica respuesta logica es escucharlos y apoyarlos.

Lluvia Morada- Colores EP

Lluvia Morada es un proyecto musical Chileno, que comienza en el 2009 en ese momento Felipe Klaue era parte de un duo junto a Julio Lamilla (ni , faz roido); proyecto en el cual trataban de crear melodias a traves instrumentos creados por ellos mismos filtrados ademas por softwares y pedales. De esta banda van saliendo sonidos mas cercanos al pop que Felipe reserva para inicar Lluvia Morada como proyecto solista.

Lluvia Morada is a musical project from Chile that started in 2009. At that time, Felipe Klaue was creating music as a duo with Julio Lamilla. That band strives to create melodies by remixing what they played with self-made instruments using software and pedals. As a result of this musical experiment, Felipe makes sounds that are reminiscent of or closer to the pop vibe. Thus began Lluvia Morada as a solo project.

Las influencias musicales de Lluvia Morada van de bandas de Dream pop como Cocteau Twins, las guitarras elaboradas que crean ambientes ensoñadores, a actos mas pop como Depeche Mode o Prince o Duran Duran, de esta manera las influencias musicales de  Felipe  van de la musica pop mas elaborada a ambientes mas psicodelicos, algo que se ve directamente reflejado en su sonido.

Lluvia Morada’s musical influences range from dream pop bands like Cocteau Twins, from which it derived the sound of elaborated guitars creating dreamy environments, to pop acts such a Depeche Mode, Prince and even Duran Duran. As it turns out, Felipe is a big fan of well-elaborated pop right through to more psychedelic music and those influences are directly reflected in his sound.

El Ep Colores, fue grabado en la habitacion de  Felipe  cada cancion tuvo un lapso de tiempo en la que fue trabajada, para llegar al resultado final, que teniendo altas dosis de lo-fi, noise o drone, es bastante cuidado y elaborado. Los nombres de las canciones que hacen referencia a un color, buscan despertar alguna sensacion al esucha a traves de la palabra, cada una fue surgiendo de lo instantaneo

The EP "Colores" was recorded in Felipe's own home recording space, and each song took a specific amount of time to be created in order to achieve the final result – a mixture between high doses of lo-fi, noise and drone. At the same time, these mélange of sounds is very put together very well and is sure to please listeners. The name of each song makes reference to a different color. The idea of this concept is to awake a certain sensation within the listener in association with such words or I guess you could say “painting” a particular instantaneous feeling about and affinity with the music.

Felipe piensa publicar un discos con 16 temas que se llamará Planetas y manejara un concepto similar a este EP un disco tematico con nombres de planetas inspirados en la ciencia ficcion, este tendrá colaboraciones vocales tanto de gente de Valparaiso ( ciudad en la que reside) como de una amiga de Buenos Aires, de esta manera seguira experimentando en su sonido, algo que tan claramente se nota en el Ep Colores, que a traves de un concepto simple como los colores logra presentar una propuesta bien elaborada y que se debate entre la armonia y el caos.

 He plans to publish a whole album that includes 16 songs, called Planetas – this album will have a somewhat similar concept at the “Colores” EP, but in this case, each song will be a planet instead of a color. The inspiration for this came from various science fiction stories. The album will also involve different vocal collaborations, and will be an extension of the experimentation that was evident in the “Colores” EP, where a simple concept of an elaborated proposal takes form between harmony and chaos.

Ummagma: “Upsurd” by Cyrille Clement

After the publication of our debut article, which reviewed the Ukrainian/Canadian indie dream pop duo Ummagma, the response has been positive and we have received a submission by a French freelance journalist, Cyrille Clément, requesting that we publish his review of the band’s latest music video. So Musica Media is pleased to present this review of Ummagma’s “Upsurd”. 

Después de la publicación de nuestro primer artículo, reseñando al dúo Ucraniano/Canadiense de Indie dream pop Ummagma, la respuesta ha sido tan positiva que hemos recibido un aporte de parte del periodista independiente francés, Cyrille Clément, quien nos envía una reseña del último video de la banda. Así que es un gusto para nosotros presentar la reseña de Upsurd de Ummagma.

While apparently in existence for about 8 years, the husband-wife musical duo Ummagma only revealed their beautiful music to the public in March 2012 and soon after that, they independently released their two debut albums “Antigravity” and “Ummagma” in mid-July. In a short window of time, not only have they given us 24 wonderful audio tracks, but also 5 video clips, every one of which is worthy of attention. This review focuses on the latest in that series – for the song “Upsurd”. 

Aunque con una trayectoria de 8 años, el dúo musical de esposos Ummagma solo revelo su belleza musical al mundo en marzo del 2012, poco después,a mediados de Julio lanzaron independientemente dos álbums como debut “Antigravity” y “Ummagma”. En un abrir y cerrar de ojos, no solo nos han dado 24 maravillosas canciones, sino además 5 video clips, cada uno con algo singular e único. Esta reseña se centra en el último de sus trabajos videográficos- el de la canción Upsurd.

Power is greatly addicted to “technology”. More precisely, the technologies that the powers-that-be enjoy are pivotal ones connected to fear, since this is man’s “Achilles heal”; here, they are able to directly penetrate our thoughts and affect our actions. The “it must be this way” approach prevailing in the echelons of power rest on the idea that there can be no power without security and no security without deterrents, fear and panic. High pressure science, politics, marketing and the ‘shaping’ of the public has resulted in a decisively asymmetrical, if not dysfunctional self-serving polity and rank and file of oblivious consumers. But where exactly are we going with our productive efforts, our purported improvements in living standards, our gains in efficiency?

El poder y la tecnología van de la mano. Mas precisamente, las tecnologías que las grandes potencias aprovechan están estrechamente ligadas al miedo, pues este es el talón de Aquiles del hombre, así pueden penetrar directamente en nuestros pensamientos y cambiar nuestras acciones. En los altos mandos del poder esta idea prevalece ya que la mayoría cree que no hay poder sin seguridad y no hay seguridad sin fuerzas de control, miedo y pánico. Las presiones de la ciencia, la política, el consumismo y su influencia en la gente han dado políticas desequilibradas y disfuncionales que solo buscan el bien propio, y ven  a la gente común como consumidores ignorantes. Pero hacia donde nos llevan nuestros esfuerzos productivos,  nuestras búsqueda por un mejor nivel de vida, nuestras lucha por ser mejores?


There is a time and place for everything and it seems that, while some may express their frustration to the lame operating model of our global societal mechanism through their music or lyrics, it seems that Ummagma has admirably achieved this in this video. The product is an exquisite juxtaposition of gorgeous uplifting male and female vocals with magnificent music against the backdrop of a mirror-like video of what is wrong with our society.

Hay un tiempo y un lugar para todo y parece que, mientras algunos expresan su frustración al ineficaz modelo de nuestro mecanismo social a través de sus letras y su música, Ummagma lo ha logrado magistralmente con este video. El resultado es un exquisito juego de voces entre Shauna y Alexx acompañado genialmente por la música y usando como trasfondo una secuencia de escenas que muestran todos los males de nuestra sociedad moderna.

In “Upsurd”, Ummagma has effectively managed to express opposition to the status quo serenely, without any screaming or aggression, and in a way that seems to encourage moving beyond that lose-lose paradigm – certainly not an easy task. Distance and irony may have helped, and that's a challenge that Ummagma has overcome with this clip, quietly questioning that which is uncanny and peacefully abysmal. It seems that the pair have revealed yet another of their talents.

En “Upsurd”, Ummagma ha logrado expresar serenamente y de manera efectiva la oposición al status quo, sin ningún tipo de escándalo  o agresión, y de una manera que busca invitar a ir mas allá del juego de espejos en el que todos pierden- algo que no es sencillo. La distancia y algo de  ironía puede que hayan ayudado, y ese es el logro que Ummagma ha alcanzado con este vídeo  cuestionando tranquilamente lo extraño y pacíficamente desolador. La pareja nos ha mostrado que no solo son buenos musicos sino que tambien tienen otros talentos.

Altiplano - Caral (2012) (Free Download)

Altiplano nace una tarde de estudio del 2001 cuando Ronald Sánchez e Iván Caminitti graban el primer acercamiento al sonido profundo y místico de las quenas peruanas fusionadas con el ambient clásico, dando como resultado una pieza ceremonial de 25 minutos de duración que luego Carlos Torres  editaría en estudio, esta se convertiría  en el tema Ceremonial de su álbum La Corte Cósmica (2005), luego de esto Ronald termina invitando a Carlos a formar parte de Altiplano, constituyéndose así como un dúo nutrido por múltiples participaciones musicales y una búsqueda no solo musical sino espiritual.

Altiplano was born one afternoon when Ronald Sanchez and Ivan Caminitti recorded their first attempt at mixing the deep and mystique sound of the "quenas peruanas" (Indian flutes), resulting in a ceremonial sound piece of ambient music lasting 25 minutes, which would later be edited in the studio by Carlos Torres and would eventually become the song “Ceremonial” from the first album of the band La Corte Cosmica. Afterwards, Ronald invited Carlos to form a band, which gave rise to Altiplano, a duo fueled by multiple collaborations and driven by a musical and spiritual search.

El sonido de Altiplano se va desarrollando a través de largas sesiones de experimentación,  a través del ensayo y el error,  la improvisación y conexión con estados más etéreos. Desde el inicio su música ha estado ligada a la ambientación; muchos de sus trabajos han sido presentados como parte de exposiciones de arte y en museos;  Altiplano es una muestra de que el Ambient ha existido siempre, como una configuración o dialogo entre el hombre y los elementos,  que esta esperando a ser descifrada y escuchada.

The duo’s sound has evolved over long sessions of experimenting, by trial and error, improvisation and connection to etheric states as, since the beginning, Altiplano's music has been linked to the ambience of spaces. In fact, many of their works have been presented in museums and art expositions. Their music is an example that ambient music has always existed, like a configuration or dialogue between man and the elements, which is waiting to be decoded and listened.


with the time they developed a way to create art unique and very personal, to create musical ambiences that not only linked you with deep states of mind, they are able to transport the listener through space and time to the ancient Inca culture and their magic world. As Ronald says: “more than song are landscapes. Many of their concerts begin with the classic ceremonial sound and then evolve through rhythmic and dance beats, without overlooking the caps, flows and walls of sound.

 With time, Altiplano developed a way to make their art unique and very personal, to create musical ambiences that not only linked you with a deep state of mind, but they are even able to transport the listener through space and time to the ancient Inca culture and their magic world. In Ronald’s words, “More important than song are landscapes”. Many of their concerts begin with a classic ceremonial sound and then evolve through rhythmic and dance beats, without overlooking the caps, flows and walls of sound. 

Con el tiempo fueron desarrollando un método único  y personal de crear arte, de crear ambientaciones musicales que crean conexiones no solo con otros estados mentales, sino que viajan a través del tiempo y el espacio hacia la cultura andina prehispanica ancestral y su mundo mágico. Como el mismo Ronald dice: “mas que canciones son paisajes”, su musica tiene la capacidad de transportar al escucha. Muchas de sus presentaciones comienzan con el clasico sonido ceremonial y evolucionabam hacia algo mas ritmico y dance, pero sin dejar de lado las capas , flujos y murllas sonoras..

Before they began to play live, both members of Altiplano had their own distinct musical and human experiences throughout individual lives, as perceived in events like a visit to the Marcahuasi Plateau in San Pedro de Casta (Perú) before recording the song "Ascencion". In that way Altiplano shaped its sound, not only through music but any possible experience, but between a well-shaped balance of the typical instruments of Andean Music like Quena de cerámica Chincha and Antara, pan flutes and the use of electronic elements like synths, samplers and laptops.


Antes que tocar en vivo, los dos miembros de altiplano fueron acumulando experiencias, tanto musicales como personales, un proceso a lo largo de su vida, como cuando Carlos cita el viaje a la meseta de Marcahuasi, en san pedro de casta, tras del cual grabarían el tema Ascensión.  Así Altiplano fue dando forma a su sonido, no solo a través de la música, sino de toda experiencia posible, entre un equilibrio bien cuidado entre instrumentos andinos como la  Quena de cerámica Chincha  y Antara, la Flauta de pan  y el uso de elementos tecnológicos como sintetizadores, samplers, y laptops.   

Transitions between Inca and ambient music, in constant balance, are something remarkable in every second of Altiplano's music. While the musical pieces from the duo’s first albums were longer, the sound in Altiplano’s more recent recordings is more concrete and direct. Nevertheless, their musical nature has not changed, they lead you through different landscapes and sensations, creating a journey accompanied by music, that is timeless and beyond space and rhythm, all created with ample freedom and spontaneity

Entre la música Incaica y el ambient, pero siempre en constante equilibrio, algo que se nota a cada momento de su música, ya sea en las piezas de sus primeros albums que eran mas largas, o su últimos sonido apuntando a piezas mas concretas, logrando de cualquier manera transmitir sensaciones y paisajes a través sonidos espontáneos, y mas que todo creando un viaje, atemporal, espacial y rítmico. la musica de Altiplano ha ido evolucionando a traves de los años, de los primeros jams improvisados, al trabajo mas maduro de los ultimos años,  pero siempre espontaneamente y con mucha libertad.

A travel between Inca Music and Ambient, in constant balance, something that you could notice in every second of Altiplano's music. The musical pieces from his first albums were longer, now in his recent recordings, Altiplano's sound is more concrete and direct, but his musical nature has not changed, they lead you trough different landscapes and sensations, creating a travel accompanied by music, out of time, space and rhythm, all created with much freedom spontaneity.

En este EP se recopila el trabajo de muchas personas, el arte de tapa fue hecho por la marca argentina Colakuerno inspirada en gran parte por la música de la banda; en total son 5 temas, que comprenden los tres álbums de que la banda ha lanzado, cada tema mantiene su identidad musical pero propone algo distinto en cada sonido, lo que se busco fue reunir varias cosas a través del trabajo de las personas participes, juntos los temas logran una cohesión casi perfecta, proponen algo y logran crear una travesía musical que esperamos tengan el gusto de hacer....

This EP was also reviewed in my other blog “Latino América Shoegaze”, thanks to the efforts of many different persons. Their cover art was created by the Argentinian Independent Trademark Colakuerno, inspired by Altiplano's music. The EP consists of five songs selected from the band’s previous three album releases, each one of which is unique with its own identity, offering something different in terms of sound. So the idea of this latest release was to gather the diverse works of this dynamic duo, creating a mutual cohesion between these songs. So we hope you will also enjoy this musical journey.

Shishi- Nick of Time ( Single)

Shishi 石獅 (Imperial Guardian Lion) is a indie pop group that was formed in 2012 in the suburbs of Philadelphia. They blend stylish beats, pop synths, and shoegaze guitars to create a refreshing and unique approach to indie pop songwriting.

Shishi 石獅 (Leon de La Guardia Imperial) es un grupo de indie-poo formado en el año 2012 en Philadelphia. La banda fusiona elegantes beats. sintetizadores pop, y guitarras distorsioanadas para crear un refrescante y unico enfoque hacia la creacion de canciones de indie pop.

Following up on our most recent review of yet another musical marriage, we now focus on Tom and Jamie have produced this love project, for which we have the pleasure to review today. Shishi has presented the world their first single “Nick of Time”. Tom Lugo is also a well-established personality in the shoegaze indie pop world, as the founder of Patetico Recordings, a small Philadelphia-based indie record label, and from having founded and been involved in numerous musical projects related to shoegaze, noise and independent music in general. Now, with Shishi, he has embraced a new musical project with his wife Jamie, which represents a successful attempt to create pop songs with a distinct noise vibe happening at the same time.

Despues de nuestra mas reciente reseña, seguimos con otro matrimonio musical, ahora enfocados en Tom y Jamie quienes han dado vida a este hermoso proyecto, que tenemos el gusto de presentarles hoy. Shisi ha lanzado hace poco su primer single "Nick of Time". Tom Lugo  es ya toda un personalidad en el mundo del shoegaze y el indie-pop, como fundador de Patetico Recordings, y por haber sido parte de de innumerables proyectos musicales relacionados con el shoegaze, el noise y la musica independiente en general. Ahora, con Shishi ha comenzado una nueva aventura musical junto a su esposa,en el cual logran crear una mezcla entre la sensibilidad de las canciones pop pero fusionado con sonidos noise.

With their first single "Nick of Time", which is almost 4 minutes long, Tom and Jamie have brewed up a tasteful potpourri of everything they wanted to achieve, with all their musical influences blended in a pop song with elements of shoegaze, noise and dance. The result is strong and simple, you can feel all the musical elements in every second of the song, in a careful balance between Jamie's pop-oriented voice and the noisy guitars and synths. With this as a basic core, all the other musical elements fit perfectly and Shishi realizes itself – this makes for a nice pop song that could be enjoyed by noise fans as well. 

Con su primer singles " Nick of Time" y con apenas 4 minutos de duracion, Tom y Jamie han creado una excelente mezcla de todo lo que querian hacer musicalmente, con todas sus influencias musicales mezcladas en una cancion pop con elementos de shoegaze, noise y dance. El resultado es bastante consistente. puedes sentir todos los elementos musicales en cada segundo de la cancion, en un equilibrio entre la dulce voz de Jamie y las guitarras y sintetizadores ruidosos. Con todo esto como centro, todos los otros elementos musicales se acoplan perfectamente y Shishi logra su cometido- crear una cancion pop que puede ser disfrutada por los amantes del noise tambien.
